My Husbands "Green" family travelled through Rosedale in pursuit of the Ironstone mining Industry.

The mines here were only active for a short while during the 1870's. The family, and many friends then moved on to Guisborough, where there were more Ironstone mines.

Many of the cottages in Rosedale Abbey today, were built for the influx of Ironstone miners. Other than this, very little evidence of the mines survive.
